Hospitality Leaders Against Famine

We are a coalition of hospitality leaders from across the UK. Together, we’re raising our voices to demand urgent government action to address the escalating food and hunger crisis in Gaza. We believe the hospitality industry has a moral obligation to act - and we urge our elected officials to do the same.

A Call to Confront the Food Crisis in Gaza - September 2025

To the Rt. Hon. Members of the UK Government,

We write to you as leaders from the UK’s hospitality sector - an industry built on the principles of nourishment, care, and human connection. Every day, we serve people with the belief that access to food is not a privilege, but a fundamental human right. In this spirit, we feel compelled to raise our voices over the unfolding humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.

According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) - a global, UN-supported initiative that monitors hunger crises - famine conditions have now been confirmed in Gaza City and its surrounding areas. At least 20% of households in Gaza City reportedly have no access to food or basic necessities, acute malnutrition is affecting an estimated 30% of children and the lives of over 130,000 under fives are at threat.

As an industry centred on the belief that everyone deserves a nourishing meal, we are horrified by the scale and severity of this crisis. The evidence is clear, this famine is not a natural disaster - it is entirely man-made. And crucially, it can be stopped.

We therefore join countless voices from across the UK in urging you to apply diplomatic pressure and demand the following:

  1. Unrestricted Humanitarian Access: Work to secure immediate and unrestricted delivery of food, water, and medical supplies through recognised humanitarian channels.

  2. Cessation of Hostilities to Enable Aid Delivery: Call for an immediate and permanent halt to all military actions that obstruct the distribution of food and humanitarian assistance.

  3. Full-Scale Emergency Aid Operations: Facilitate the large-scale entry of qualified humanitarian organisations, without delay or obstruction, to provide life-saving support.

Let us reaffirm the basic principle that every human being deserves the dignity of food, shelter, and safety.

We implore you to act - decisively, humanely, and without delay.

Sincerely,

UK Hospitality Leaders
